Accessibility Statement

Effective date: September 22, 2026

Care Tales is patient education. It only works if a patient can actually read it, hear it and move through it. This page says what we do today and what we have not done yet.

What the product does today

Six languages. Every module is available in English, Spanish, French, Russian, Portuguese and Haitian Creole. You can switch language while you read.

Three reading levels. Each module is written at three levels of reading difficulty. You can change level at any point in a module and keep your place. Nobody is told which level you chose.

Audio. Modules can be read aloud. The spoken audio is generated with Google Cloud Text-to-Speech.

No account needed. A patient can open a module from a QR code or a link with no sign-up, no password and no app install. That removes a barrier for people who do not have an account or cannot manage one.

Works on a phone. Modules are built to be used on a phone browser, which is how most patients open them.

Clinician review. Care Tales staff review a module before it is marked verified. Plain wording is part of that review.

What we have not done yet

We want to be straightforward about this rather than claim a standard we have not tested against.

  • We have not completed a formal audit against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and we are not claiming conformance to a level.
  • We have not published a VPAT or an accessibility conformance report.
  • We have not run a structured test pass with screen reader users, with keyboard-only navigation or with users of screen magnification.
  • Translations and the simpler reading levels are produced with automated tools and review. English is the source version and is the one we stand behind if versions disagree.
  • Some content inside modules is image, audio or video. We have not verified that every one of those has an equivalent in text.

We are building a testing routine that covers screen readers, keyboard navigation, contrast and text resizing, and we intend to publish the results here rather than a badge.

What you can do in the meantime

Your browser and device settings help with most of this. Text size, zoom, high contrast and your operating system's own screen reader all work on module pages the way they do on other websites. If a module is hard to read at your usual settings, the lower reading level and the audio are often the fastest fix.

Tell us about a barrier

If something in Care Tales stops you, write to support@caretales.com. It helps if you tell us:

  • the module or page, or the link you were sent
  • what you were trying to do
  • the device, browser and any assistive technology you use

We read every message. We will tell you what we find and, where we can, get you the content another way while we fix the underlying problem.

If you reached Care Tales through a clinic, you can also ask the clinic. It can give you the same material in another format.

Changes to this document

We will post a new version here with a new effective date, including when a test pass is finished.
